Aug 28,2026,Kuala Lumpur. -GWM Malaysia is reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Malaysian automotive industry through its participation in the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2026, highlighting its growing local operations, regional export ambitions and continued investment in advanced mobility technologies.
Sim Tze Tzin- Deputy Minister of MITI, officiated the GATE 2026,organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii),bringing together government agencies, automotive manufacturers, technology providers, suppliers and industry stakeholders to showcase innovations, exchange ideas and explore new opportunities across Malaysia’s automotive, technology and manufacturing ecosystem. For GWM Malaysia, the expo provides a platform to showcase how its growing presence in the country — spanning products, technology, local assembly and regional exports — is laying the foundation for the next generation of new-energy mobility.
Since establishing its presence in Malaysia in 2022, GWM has continued to expand its local operations through product investments, technology introductions and localisation initiatives. In the first half of 2026, the company delivered 3,166 vehicles, marking a 42.4% year-on-year increase and placing GWM among Malaysia’s Top 11 automotive brands, driven by strong demand for models such as the GWM HAVAL H6 HEV and GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV.
Stan Li Hao- MD, Commercial Operations, GWM Malaysia, said, “Over the past four years, we have built a stronger foundation for GWM in Malaysia, supported by growing customer acceptance and confidence in our products and technologies. As we enter our next phase of growth, Malaysia is becoming increasingly important not only as a market, but also as part of our wider ASEAN strategy.
“Through local assembly, regional opportunities and stronger partnerships, our focus is on creating sustainable, long-term growth while contributing to the development of Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem.”
Strengthening Local Assembly and Malaysia’s Regional Role
At GATE 2026, GWM is showcasing three models that represent the current progress and future direction of its locally assembled portfolio.
Leading the showcase is the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, GWM’s locally assembled luxury MPV that is also exported from Malaysia to Thailand, demonstrating the country’s growing role within GWM’s regional manufacturing and export network. In Malaysia, the WEY G9 is also the No.1-selling luxury MPV among officially distributed OEM brands.
Joining the showcase are the GWM ORA 5 HEV and GWM HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV, both planned for local assembly in Malaysia. The ORA 5 HEV combines distinctive design and intelligent technology with hybrid efficiency, while the HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV brings performance, intelligent four-wheel-drive capability and electrified efficiency to GWM’s SUV portfolio.
Together, the three models represent one current CKD model and two upcoming models planned for local assembly, reflecting GWM’s continued expansion of its locally assembled portfolio and its multi-category, multi-powertrain approach to electrification.

Connecting Today’s Capabilities with Tomorrow’s Technologies
Beyond its vehicle portfolio, GWM is showcasing its proprietary Hi2 and Hi4 technologies, demonstrating its approach to balancing efficiency, performance, intelligence and capability across different driving requirements. Together, they reflect GWM’s multi-powertrain approach to developing electrified solutions for different vehicle applications, markets and driving needs.
GWM is also highlighting hydrogen technologies developed by FTXT, providing industry stakeholders with an overview of the Group’s global development of alternative energy solutions and their future potential across mobility, energy and wider applications.
The technology showcase aims to encourage greater industry awareness and dialogue around how hydrogen and other emerging new-energy technologies could contribute to Malaysia’s longer-term mobility ambitions.
Building Today, Exploring Tomorrow
Collectively, GWM’s presence at GATE 2026 connects two important priorities for the company in Malaysia, strengthening what is being built today through localisation and regionalisation, while exploring the technologies and partnerships that could contribute to the next phase of mobility development.
