June 05, 2026 ,Kuala Lumpur–Stellantis Malaysia has officially kicked off local assembly of Leapmotor vehicles at its Gurun, Kedah manufacturing hub, marking a major LEAP forward for Malaysia’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.
The start of production sees the award-winning Leapmotor C10 roll off the local assembly line, with the B10 set to join the line-up in the near future.

This is Stellantis’ strategic vision to transform Malaysia into a regional EV production powerhouse. By localising assembly, the company is driving industrial growth, creating greater value within the automotive supply chain, and bringing cutting-edge electric mobility closer to Malaysian consumers.
The move also signals Stellantis’ confidence in Malaysia’s potential as a key EV hub in Southeast Asia, combining global technology, local expertise and future-ready manufacturing to support the country’s transition towards sustainable mobility
To accommodate the advanced manufacturing standards of Leapmotor’s high-tech electric vehicles, Stellantis has allocated EUR 2.23 million toward localised assembly development. With C10 production currently ongoing, operations will expand to include the B10, with assembly slated to commence by the end of 2026. Additionally, Stellantis has secured a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of EUR 3.1 million specifically earmarked for production line and infrastructure upgrades at the Gurun facility.

Stellantis continues to strategically evaluate prospective export opportunities from Gurun to the wider ASEAN region.
To manage Leapmotor’s advanced software and vehicle architectures, technical personnel and assembly operators based at Stellantis Gurun have undergone specialised training. Consequently, the workforce at the facility is now certified to safely handle high-voltage electric vehicular systems rated up to 800V, serving a crucial role in preparing Malaysia’s local workforce for the electrified future of the automotive industry.
Leapmotor and Stellantis have implemented a unified global framework governing assembly and quality compliance protocols to guarantee manufacturing standards. Following comprehensive validation, these localised operations have secured official endorsements from supervising Stellantis multidisciplinary teams as well as recognised Malaysian and global regulatory authorities.
