June 04,2026,Rawang, Perodua has partnered with three local universities — Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia — to introduce UCar-e, an app-based car rental service designed specifically for students and university staff.

Pronounced “You Car”, UCar-e represents Perodua’s latest initiative under its “Mobility as a Lifestyle” concept, reflecting the company’s vision of transforming mobility from traditional vehicle ownership into a flexible, service-oriented transportation solution.

Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad,-Perodua President and CEO, said the programme will begin with a fleet of 50 Perodua vehicles distributed across the participating universities.

“Students and staff will be able to book, access and use the vehicles through the UCar-e application for travel within the university grounds, including journeys between accommodation facilities and lecture halls,” he said.

The UCar-e application allows users to locate available vehicles at designated parking areas on campus and provides specific return zones to ensure seamless vehicle management.

“We want to make this experience as simple and hassle-free as possible for students and staff,” he added.

Perodua is also collaborating closely with the participating universities to appoint students as vehicle management agents. Their responsibilities will include maintaining vehicle cleanliness, monitoring fuel levels and ensuring the cars remain in good condition. In return, the students will receive commission-based remuneration.

“By responsibly appointing students as vehicle management agents, we are also providing entrepreneurship exposure and practical experience for the younger generation, which is an important life skill,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal.

The service is expected to commence in June 2026, with implementation taking place in stages according to each university’s readiness and rollout schedule.

According to Perodua, the introduction of UCar-e forms part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its automotive ecosystem through innovative mobility services that align with evolving consumer lifestyles and transportation needs.

Dato’ Sri Zainal noted that changing attitudes among younger consumers are influencing mobility trends.

“We recognise that many Gen Z consumers are increasingly interested in the driving experience rather than vehicle ownership. Rising maintenance costs, limited parking availability and growing traffic congestion are encouraging them to explore alternative mobility solutions,” he said.
