May 16,2026,Kuala Lumpur-Volvo Car Malaysia has introduced the Selamat Calculator, an interactive reflection tool developed in collaboration with Mr Money TV, aimed at encouraging Malaysians to rethink the true cost of unsafe driving habits and the impact of one’s absence on loved ones.

Launched in Kuala Lumpur , the initiative forms part of Volvo’s ongoing Selamat campaign, which focuses on promoting greater awareness and responsibility on Malaysian roads. Rather than measuring material wealth, the Selamat Calculator encourages users to reflect on the emotional, financial, and personal consequences that could arise if they were suddenly no longer present in the lives of those around them.

The interactive experience guides participants through a series of questions related to age, career, income, dependants, lifestyle, and personal responsibilities. Based on the responses, users receive a personalised safety risk profile together with an estimate of the financial and emotional impact their absence could leave behind — from disrupted family stability and unrealised ambitions to emotional loss and increased burdens on loved ones.

Participants are categorised into four life-stage profiles:

  • the backbone of the family,
  • the co-pilot in a partnership,
  • the independent soloist with a future ahead,
  • and the climber who has worked tirelessly to build the life they have today.

Patricia Yaw,-Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said the initiative is designed to remind people to appreciate the importance of their presence in the lives of others.

She explained that while drivers may sometimes take safety for granted, the Selamat Calculator is intended to gently reinforce that life’s true value is not measured in wealth, but in the people closest to us and the moments we continue to share with them.

Peter Yong, -CEO and Co-Founder of Mr Money TV, added that financial literacy ultimately extends beyond numbers and investments, encompassing the value of life itself. He noted that people often prioritise luxuries while overlooking the simple safety habits that help protect their future and those around them.

According to Yong, the initiative aims to encourage Malaysians to reflect on practical decisions such as wearing seatbelts, resting adequately before driving, and practising patience on the road — actions that can make a critical difference in preserving lives.

The Selamat Calculator complements several other educational efforts introduced by Volvo Car Malaysia, including the Selamat Driving Experience held on 16 and 17 May 2026. Together, these initiatives are intended to transform road safety from merely a regulatory requirement into a shared culture of care and responsibility among road users.

Yaw added that the word “Selamat” reflects both Volvo’s safety philosophy and a deeply rooted Malaysian sentiment — a quiet wish for loved ones to travel safely, live fully, and always return home safely.

The Selamat Calculator is now available online at volvocarmalaysia.com/selamat, inviting Malaysians to reflect on the value of every journey home.
