May 21,2024,Malaysia-Gone are the days of Malaysia needing more charging stations shared Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) President and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad at the media day of the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 held at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

“The issue is not about Malaysia needing more charging stations, in fact, we only need about 6,000 to 7,000 charging stations nationwide. Now it’s all about the whole eco system,” said Zainal.

He added that currently, it is all about the whole environment issue on battery, the recycling of the batteries and of course the second-hand car value of an electric vehicle (EV).

Zainal explained that currently the company is looking into the whole aspects of the electric vehicle, to make sure when the company launch its upcoming EV, all the eco system are already in place.

“Now what the public worries about when it comes to EV is the resale value. We need to make sure that when we launch our EV, the resale value must maintain six or seven years later,” Zainal expressed.

Currently, 60% of the company’s first EV is in progress , Zainal mentioned during the press conference after he showcased the Perodua all-electric Myvi Concept, EMO-I.

“Stay tuned for the second episode, there’s not much I can share now, but for sure the pricing for the EV will be affordable, above RM50,000 but still will be affordable,” Zainal said.
