July 23,2022,Hong Kong-Hong Kong race drivers, Jonathan Hui will be racing with Sky Tempesta Racing in the Gold Cup and Antares Au with Herberth Motorsport in the Pro-Am Cup at the biggest GT race of the year, the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.
The pair are the only two Hong Kong representatives out of an impressive 65-car entry list boasting over 200 top-tier international drivers. The twice round-the-clock event is set to take place from the 28th to the 31st of July.
Antares Au will be competing in the Pro-Am Cup in the #9 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-R with teammates Kevin Tse, Dylan Pereira and Jaxon Evans. Earlier this year, Au achieved a hard-fought P2 at the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series Finale, also with team Herberth, continuing his push into top-level endurance racing since representing Hong Kong at the Dubai 24H from 2018–2020.
In 2021, Hui became the first-ever driver from Hong Kong to win a GT World Challenge Europe title in any class, when he was crowned the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup Pro-Am champion. He achieved this feat with Sky Tempesta Racing and has continued to race with the British team this year, although switching from Ferrari to Mercedes-AMG machinery.
Hui will be racing in the same race but in a different class, will be joined by his teammates Christopher Froggatt, Eddie Cheever and Loris Spinelli in the #93 Sky Tempesta Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Gold Cup. Hui and his co-drivers will be looking to maximize the points haul in Belgium, having had a difficult start to the season this year, currently sitting in P9.
The 24 Hours of Spa will be held at the classic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, beloved by drivers and spectators alike. Its legendary mix of high and medium-speed corners over 7km demands compromise between speed and stability from drivers and teams.
This year’s GT3-only entry list cars from Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche, and is guaranteed to see close-fought battles and lots of overtaking action. Hui and Au have been preparing hard for this event, and will travel to Belgium in the coming weeks with hopes of bringing home the class titles for Hong Kong.
