October 19, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – Japanese carmaker Mazda Corporation has announced a product recall for the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9 that were manufactured between 2017 and 2019 to replace its fuel pump as a precautionary measure.

Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, together with Mazda Corp, is serious on resolving the matter as swiftly as possible.

“The safety of the customers is of the utmost priority and we applogise for the inconvenience caused to the affected customers,” the company said in a statement.

Bermaz Motor assured that all its year 2020 production models are not affected in this product recall.

“This product recall is necessary as a preventive measure to address the possibility of loss of engine power or vehicle stalling caused by the fuel pump module. It is also in line with the fuel pump recall in other affected countries including China, ASEAN countries and other areas (countries in Asia, Middle East, Africa, Middle America and the Caribbean),” said Bermaz Motor.

There are 2,028 units of Mazda2, 1,441 units of Mazda3, 13 units of Mazda6, 3,381 units of Mazda CX-3, 15,780 units of Mazda CX-5 and 42 units of Mazda CX-9 that were affected in Malaysia.

Affected customers will be informed via notification letters and mobile SMS, which will include the details of the product recall. Upon receipt of notification to replace the fuel pump, Bermaz Motor urges all affected customers to contact any Bermaz authorised service centres to make an appointment.

“The replacement of the affected fuel pump is free of charge and all cost related to this replacement activity will be borne by Mazda Corporation,” the company said.

It will take an estimated 1.5 hours or longer, depending on the model and the service centre’s workload at the time of appointment. The replacement stocks will be available in stages.
