BMW 2 Series Unveiled

October 8, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – BMW Group Malaysia, the official distributor for BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles in Malaysia, has launched the all-new BMW 218i Gran Coupe M Sport with a price tag of RM 211,367.

The launching event was held at the prestigious Swiss timepiece exhibition, TIme Kulture by Swiss Watch Gallery at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

“We are pleased to be introducing our first locally assembled four-door coupe here in Time Kulture as a way to celebrate these precious yet fleeting moments in time, particularly in this era of uncertainty. Therefore, we want to celebrate the dynamic independent spirit of these emerging local businesses who despite the change in times, rose above adversity with sheer determination, resilience and innovation.

“This is a view we share with Time Kulture that upholds the new urbanite lifestyle that is always pushing boundaries and seizing every challenge that presents itself,” said its managing director Harald Hoelzl at the launching event.

BMW Group Malaysia unveiled the all-new BMW 218i Grand Coupe M Sport alongside with a fleet of camouflaged models in unique designs by local businesses, volunteer groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – Komuniti Tukang Jahit, Changgig Designs, INKAA and Kanoe.

“The successful history of the BMW Group is written with small, sporty and dynamic premium vehicles which redefined the world’s premium automotive industry. Dating back to the 1960s with the ‘Neue Klasse’, no other premium automaker has such an extensive portfolio and experience in developing premium compact vehicles. The all-new BMW 2 Series Grand Coupe bring this expertise into an all new decade in the 21st Century with modern styling, emotional driving dynamics and generation-leading innovation,” Hoelzl said.

He added that BMW Malaysia is looking into the future with its vehicles in the premium compact segment and the automaker also paid tribute to all the groups that supported the local communities throughout these challenging times.

The groups helped create unique camouflage designs based on amazing stories as seen on some of the BMW 218i Gran Coupe M Sport driving around Klang Valley in the lead up to the launch at Time Kulture.

Some of the highlights of the BMW 218i Gran Coupe M Sport are the newly-designed three-dimensional mesh single-unit kidney grille, LED headlights, LED foglight, 18-inch M light alloy wheels, LED taillights, M Aerodynamics package, ARB technology (near-actuator wheel slip limitation), M leather steering wheel, sport seats with leather Dakota upholstery, two-zone automatic air conditioning, BMW Live Cockpit Plus, 8.8-inch touchscreen control, iDrive controller, driving dynamics control, comfort access 2.0, BMW Digital Key, keyless entry with push to start button and wireless mobile phone charging bay.

There are driving assistant, parking assistant and reversing assistant available on-board as its safety features. Under the driving assistant, it has features like the lane change warning, cross traffic warning at the rear, rear collision warning, speed limit assist, lane departure warning with active steering intervention, and forward collision warning with brake intervention function. The parking assistant and reversing assistant features the active park distance control and a lateral parking aid.

Powering the Grand Coupe is the 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is mated to the seven-speed steptronic double-clutch transmission. It resulted to 140 hp and a peak torque of 220 Nm.

BMW claims that the BMW 218i Grand Coupe M Sport is able to complete the century sprint in 8.7 seconds and the top speed is rated at 213 kph. It’s combined fuel consumption is recorded at 5.9 litres per 100km, with 135g of carbon emissions per km.

The BMW 218i Grand Coupe M Sport is available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Snapper Rock Blue, Storm Bay and Melbourne Red accompanied by the black leather Dakota upholstery with blue and black highlights interior.

The BMW 218i Grand Coupe M Sport can be owned with monthly instalment plans starting from RM 2,418, based on an estimate of an 80 percent loan on a five-year tenure, with the Balloon Financing from BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia.

All prices mentioned are on-the road price with sales tax exemption, excluding insurance and inclusive of BMW Group Malaysia’s 5 years unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service programme.

Owners of the all-new BMW 218i M Sport will also able to use the BMW Group Loyalty+ mobile app which consists of the BMW Privileges Card and BMW Services Online, as well as the BMW roadside assistance and accident hotline.
