October 2, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – Proton Holdings Bhd, the second largest national carmaker in Malaysia, has recorded a fourth consecutive year-on-year growth month.
For the month of September, the company sold 11,935 units of vehicles, an increase of 4.9 percent from August 2020 and 12.5 percent compared to the same month a year ago. The total sales for this year recorded at 73,607 units, which is 4.3 percent ahead of last year.
Four Proton models are the main contributors for this performance – Proton Saga, Proton X70, Proton Persona and Proton Exora, which dominated its respective segments, except for Proton Saga, which is the second highest volume in the A-segment sedan.
“With Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) exceeding 50,000 units for a third month in a row, Malaysia’s automotive market has achieved a measure of stability post MCO. At Proton we are relieved and confident as our results are showing consistency, as we have beat our monthly sales numbers from the previous year.
“This is a clear indicator of a return to a sustainable sales volume,” said Proton Edar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah in a statement.
Roslan shared that the upcoming Proton X50 has registered over 20,000 bookings in the first two weeks after it opened for bookings on September 15, 2020.
“Proton would like to thank all its customers for the tremendous interest shown in the Proton X50. We are pushing to ensure fulfilment over the last three months of 2020, while continuing to emphasise product quality,” Roslan said.
In a separate statement released by Proton, the national carmaker highlighted that there are some irresponsible parties who are taking advantage from this situation by misrepresenting themselves and taking bookings for Proton X50.
“Proton would like to unequivocally state that only bookings made via authorised Proton dealers and outlets are legitimate. Proton has not appointed any parties outside of our authorised sales network to act as sales agents for the company’s products.
“We would like to strongly urge all potential customers to be wary of individuals or organisations claiming otherwise and if in doubt to contact us. At Proton, our first priority is the customers and we will always strive to ensure that they are well looked after,” said Proton.
