BMW Unveiled The 5 In Singapore

October 1, 2020, Singapore – BMW Group Asia has launched the new BMW 5 Series in Singapore, offering four variants, and a plug-in hybrid variant that will be coming soon.

The four variants include the BMW 520i, BMW 520i Luxury Line, BMW 530i M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport Edition B. However, at press time only the price of the BMW 530i M Sport Edition B variant was announced and it was priced at S$ 299,888.

Both the 520i and 530i are powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo, twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine, mated to the eight-speed Steptronic transmission. There is also the 48V mild hybrid technology available onboard.

The output for the 520i and 530i is rated at 184 hp at 5,000 to 6,500 rpm, with a torque of 290 Nm at 1,350 to 4,250 rpm, and 252 hp at 5,200 to 6,500 rpm, with 350 Nm of torque at 1,450 to 4,800 rpm.

BMW claims that the 520i is able to sprint from standstill to 100kph in 7.9 seconds, while the 530i achieved it in 6.4 seconds. The top speed is recorded at 235 kph for the 520i and 250 kph for the 530i.

The looks of the new BMW 5 Series is more modern, sporty and elegant, thanks to the new full-LED headlights with adaptive cornering function and daytime running lights, LED tail lights creating a three dimensional effect, wider and larger BMW kidney grille, and the trapezoidal tailpipe finishers.

Variants with the M Sport package raises exclusivity another notch. The M Sport package further enhances the muscular design with the new proportioned aerodynamic features. There are also new exterior colour and the optional BMW Individual Air Performance Wheels – exclusive light-alloy wheels that reduces the weight and drag coefficient.

BMW Group Asia added that a new M Sport Edition version of the new BMW 5 Series will be available from launch in a worldwide production run of 1,000 units and only limited units will make its way to Singapore.

Its exclusive specification includes the M Sport package, model-specific Air Performance wheels, Donington Grey metallic paint finish, and the previously reserved for the BMW M5’s new M multifunction seats with integral head restraints, optimised side and shoulder support.

Some of the features available in the new BMW 5 Series include the BMW Digital Key, BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high-beam with matrix technology and high-beam assistant, 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch control display (depending on variants), BMW Operating System 7.0, sports leather multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, digital instrument cluster, BMW Live Cockpit and many more.

There are also a whole list of optional upgrades which includes the BMW Laserlight, M Sport suspension, Adaptive M suspension, Adaptive M suspension Professional with active roll stabilisation, Integral Active Steering, red brake callipers, Driving Assistant Professional package which features the steering and lane control assistant, amongst others.

Apart from all the standard airbags, anti-lock braking system, traction control, electronic brakeforce distribution and others, the new BMW 5 Series is also equipped with Driving Assistant safety suites. It includes lane departure warning, active navigation, parking assistant with reversing assistant, drive recorder, and 360 camera.
