September 2, 2020, Subang Jaya – Proton Holdings Bhd, the second largest national carmaker in Malaysia, has continued its positive sales momentum for the month of August with 11,378 units sold.
To date, this is also the company’s second best performance month of the year. However, compared to a month ago, the numbers are 14 percent lower but 24.7 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Its overall sales are now 46 units ahead of 2019 (Year-To-Date).
“The achievement is particularly noteworthy as sales in March, April and May were affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the rise of coronavirus infections,” said the company in a statement.
Three Proton models are the main contributors for this achievement, which are also leaders in their respective classes. The three models are Proton Persona, Proton Exora and Proton X70.
“Proton is pleasantly surprised by how quickly we have been able to recover the lost sales during the MCO period, as it only took us three months to get back on track. By exceeding our Year-To-Date volume in August 2019, we are quietly confident of recovery from the headwinds of Covid-19.
“The positive effect this has on the company, our employees and the vendor community cannot be understated and we hope to continue this trend until the end of the year so as to give the automotive industry ecosystem a strong boost,” said Proton Edar chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah.
