August 15, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – BMW Group Malaysia, the official distributor for BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles in Malaysia, has launched four powerful vehicles – the first-ever BMW M8 Coupé, the BMW M8 Gran` Coupé, the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition.
“At the BMW Group, M is the Most Powerful Letter in the World, as it represents the high-performance vehicles born out of pure passion for motorsports. This fascination for power, speed and dynamics has put M on the map since 1972.
“The high-performance sporting segment of the world rests on the benchmark that has been set by BMW M automobiles, and with these two new additions, we witness that benchmark raised higher – as they carry the M legacy to greater heights,” its managing director Harald Hoelzl said at the launching event.
First model that was introduced at the event was the first-ever BMW M8 Coupé and the first-ever BMW M8 Gran Coupé.
“Today, we are pleased to bring together superior aesthetics and unimaginable power via the First-Ever BMW M8 Coupé and the First-Ever BMW M8 Gran Coupé – right here in the Secret Garage @ M Town.
The Secret Garage @ M Town is based on the infamous BMW M Secret Garage – hidden somewhere within the BMW M facility in Munich, Germany. A range of iconic BMW M vehicles were displayed at the Secret Garage @ M Town, including the BMW M850i, BMW M5 and BMW M4.
Both the BMW M8 Coupé and BMW M8 Gran Coupé are powered by the 4.4-litres V8 with BMW M TwinPower technology mated to the new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic modes. The mill is capable of producing 600 hp and a peak torque of 750Nm at 1,800 to 5,600 rpm.
BMW claims that both the BMW M8 Coupé and BMW M8 Gran Coupé are able to complete the century sprint in 3.3 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph. It’s fuel efficiency is rated at 10.4 litres per 100km (l/100km) for the BMW M8 Coupé and the BMW M8 Gran Coupé is rated at 10.7l/100km. As for the CO2 output, the BMW M8Coupé has recorded 239g/km, while the BMW M8 Gran Coupé registered 243g/km.
The two models are based on the newly-introduced BMW 8 Series, with tons of M-specific parts such as the new M-specific front apron, decorative mesh BMW kidney grille, double slats, M8 designation, M twin-stalk designed exterior mirrors, M8 rear diffuser, M gills, M rear spoiler, exhaust system with twin tailpipes and chrome trims, variable damper control, Active M differential, M Servotronic steering, M Sport electric adjusted seats with memory function, M8 door sills, gearshift lever knob, M seat belts, integrated brake system, M compound brakes with blue calipers and the 20-inch M light alloy wheels in double-spoke style 810 M Bicolour.
Apart from that, boththe two-doors BMW M8 Coupé and four-doors BMW M8 Gran Coupé are equipped with the BMW Laserlights with high-beam assistant, doors with soft-close function, carbon roof, mixed tyres, automatic tailgate operation, flap-controlled exhaust system, sound control button, M xDrive all-wheel drive system, full-leather upholstery, 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system with 464-watt amplifier, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 10.25-inch control display, full colour head-up display with M-specific displays, BMW Intelligent personal assistant, iDrive Touch Controller, M Mode selector, BMW ConnectedDrive, Digital Key, comfort access, BMW Drive Recorder and many more.
Meanwhile, the BMW M8 Coupé has a 420 litres of boot space with 50/50 split rear seats backrest to increase its boot space, while the BMW M8 Gran Coupé offers 440 litres of boots space with 40/20/40 split backrest.
As for its safety features, it is fitted with DSC stability control interventions, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, BMW Personal CoPilot driver assistance systems which includes the Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Plus (which contain functions like the Lane Keeping Assistant with side collision protection, Lane Change Assistant, Crossing-traffic Warning and the Reversing Assistant, amongst others.
There are seven alluring colours to choose from for both the BMW M8 Coupé and BMW M8 Gran Coupé to match the interior Merino Leather in either Black or Silverstone. The colours are Alpine White, Brands Hatch Grey, Marina Bay Blue, Motegi Red, Black Sapphire, Donington Grey and Barcelona Blue.
Concurrently, the BMW Individual is available for owners as an option, to personalise their BMW M8 Coupé or their BMW M8 Gran Coupé. For those who want to own the BMW M8 Coupé immediately, there is an exclusive BMW M8 Coupé in BMW Individual Frozen Bluestone exterior is now available for purchase at an additional RM 30,000. The one-of-a-kind offering is currently limited to only one unit in Malaysia.
The BMW M8 Coupé is priced at RM 1,452,960.88, while the BMW M8 Gran Coupé is retailed at RM1,455,145.25. With the Balloon Financing Plan from BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia, the BMW M8 Coupé and BMW M8 Gran Coupé can be owned with monthly instalment plans starting from RM 16,578.00 and RM 16,598.00, respectively (based on estimates of an 80 percent loan on a five-year tenure).
At the same event, BMW Group Malaysia also introduced the mid-size segment M powered driving machines, BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition.
“For over two decades, the BMW X range has been unrivalled in the high-performance mid-size segments, having pioneered some of the most advanced four-wheel drive technology in the industry.
“Tonight, BMW Malaysia is thrilled to be introducing two additions not just to the BMW X family but also the high-performance model line-up – the first-ever BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition,” said Hoelzl.
Powering the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition is the 3-litre M TwinPower Turbo straight-six petrol engine, paired with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. It can generate 510 hp and a peak torque of 600 Nm at 2,600 to 5,950 rpm.
BMW declared that the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition can dash to 100 kph from standstill at 4.1 seconds. Its top speed is electronically capped at 250 kph. The BMW M models only consume 10.6 l/100km and its carbon emission rating is measured at 244g/km.
Both the BMW X3 M Competition Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and BMW X4 M Competition Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) both appear with the characteristically M design elements, complemented by the sporty aesthetics of the BMW X.
Unlike the BMW X3 and BMW X4, both the M models can be distinguished by the distinctive front apron and large, hexagonal air intake, black kidney grille surrounds, side gills, and wing mirror caps.
Individually, the BMW X3 M Competition has a slim diffuser in high-gloss black and a M-specific roof spoiler. The BMW X4 M Competition, on the other hand, features a black aerodynamic spoiler. Of course, there are also other M elements on board.
The M elements include M Sport exhaust system, 21-inch bicolour M light alloy wheels, Adaptive M suspension, Active M differential, M compound brakes, M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system, M leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, red M Drive buttons, redesigned M gear selector lever, interior trim finished in carbon fibre, decorative seams in BMW M colours, M seatbelts, M pedals, M Sport seats with active seat ventilation, lumbar support and illuminated M badge below the semi-integrated head restraint, as well as the M-specific instrument cluster and kneepads.
Other equipment list of the BMW M models are the adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant, full-LED tail lights, red Start/Stop button, premium leather Merino upholstery, Harman Kardon 16 speakers surround-sound system with 600W nine-channels amplifier, 10.25-inch control display, iDrive controller, comfort access system, automatic tailgate operation, BMW Gesture control and many more.
There is a seat backrest adjustment for rear seat passengers as well as roller sunblind for the rear side windows, exclusively for the BMW X3 M Competition.
The BMW X3 M Competition has a boot space of 550 litres and can be increased to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded. On the other hand, the BMW X4 M Competition offers up to 1,430 litres of boot space from its 525 litres.
Both the BMW M models come equipped with the advanced assistance system, head-up display with M-specific display, driving assistant plus, Parking Assistant Plus that features the surround view and remote 3D service, BMW ConnectedDrive services, BMW Concierge service, teleservices, remote services, and intelligent emergency call.
As for the colour offerings, the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition are available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Donington Grey, Phytonic Blue, Sophisto Grey and Toronto Red. Depending on the selected exterior offering, the models can be furnished with the leather Merino interior upholstery in Black, Sakhir Orange or Adelaide Grey.
The BMW X3 M Competition carries a price tag of RM 886,551.58, while the BMW X4 M Competition is priced at RM 904,276.60.
Both the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition can be owned with monthly installment plans starting from RM 10,118.00 and RM 10,318.00, respectively. The figures are based on estimates of an 80 percent loan on a five-year tenure, with the Balloon Financing from BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia.
All four models, the BMW M8 Coupé, BMW M8 Gran Coupé, BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition are available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from August 14, 2020.
