July 20, 2020, Stuttgart – The Porsche Taycan is the most important innovation driver in the global automotive market, thanks to a total of 27 new developments.
13 of these or almost half, are world firsts. These are the conclusions of the new AutomotiveINNOVATION Report published by the Centre of Automotive Management (CAM).
Innovations in the electric Porsche recognised by the scientists at CAM includes the 800-volt architecture, two-speed transmission on the rear axle, high recuperative power of up to 265 kW and best cd value in the segment from 0.22.
The CAM is an independent scientific institute for strategic consulting and empirical automotive and mobility research at the University of Applied Sciences (FHDW) in Bergisch Gladbach. They have been analysing the innovations of global automotive manufacturers since 2005, under the centre’s director professor Stefan Bratzel.
In conjunction with the auditing and consulting company PricewaterhouseCoopers, they recognise the most outstanding innovations in their annual awards approximately 250 production vehicles were evaluated for 2019/20.
“We are delighted that our first all-electric sports car has so quickly achieved a place on the top step of the podium in the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS awards. This is fantastic confirmation of the innovative strength of our company and the pioneering spirit that can be found at Porsche.
“We have developed a new car with a new team and have built a completely new carbon-neutral factory. Technical innovations such as our 800-volt architecture, recognised here by the award, permit short charging times. The two-speed transmission on the rear axle guarantees a unique driving experience. Both order book and customer feedback are very positive,” said Porsche AG chairman of the executive board Oliver Blume in a statement.
The Porsche Taycan has won around 40 international awards, above all in its principal markets such as Germany, US, UK and China. Some of the awards that the electric sports car has won includes the World Car of the Year 2020 in the World Performance Car and World Luxury Car categories by World Car of the Year, Car of the year by BBC TopGear Magazine (UK), Game Changer of the year by BBC TopGear Magazine (UK) and the China Green Car of the Year by Chinese Car of the Year and German Car of the Year, amongst others.
